Assistance for Veterans: A new settlement may make some Servicemembers and Veterans eligible for housing relief. Relief could affect those who were wrongly foreclosed upon, wrongfully denied the opportunity to reduce their mortgage payments through lower interest rates, or forced to sell their homes for less than they were worth due to a change in station. An estimated 2-3 million borrowers could be eligible for this savings. Illinois Department of Employment Security: IDES offers a number employment tools, including job searches, job fairs, and training specifically for veterans.

Jesse Brown Veterans Affairs Medical Center: Veterans living in Chicago and Cook County can receive mental health, prescription drugs, primary care, social work, specialty care and women’s health services at the center located at 820 South Damen.

Magellan Health Services: Uninsured veterans or veterans without access to a VA facility can receive services through Magellan Health Services’ confidential Illinois Warrior Assistance Program. Veterans and their families can receive free assistance via online chat or toll-free call in coping with symptoms associated with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Illinois veterans can receive traumatic brain injury (TBI) screening and coverage for outpatient services for PTSD and TBI.

Thresholds Veterans Project: Thresholds serves veterans coping with mental illness, substance abuse, trauma, and those needing wrap-around services such as housing, peer support, or employment.

Veterans Affairs Lakeside Outpatient Clinic: Veterans can receive primary health care services, including mental health services, for veterans in the downtown and north side. Specialty care is referred to the Jesse Brown VA Medical Center. Free valet and self-parking. The clinic is located at 211 East Ontario, 12^th Floor and can be reached at 312.469.4850.
